DEA DEA Special Agents Crack Down on the Sale of Counterfeit Drugs over the Internet

Almost everyone has received an email that is trying to sell you discount drugs over the internet. While many people assume these are fake offers and delete the emails, many other people are scammed into paying money for counterfeit and illicit medicines. In fact, counterfeit drugs that are sold over the internet have become a huge threat to our nation’s public health.

In an international effort to stop the sale of counterfeit drugs over the Internet, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) monitored shipments at mail facilities across the country last week looking for counterfeit drugs coming into the United States. DEA Special Agents were able to halt the shipment of 7,000 suspect packages preventing them from potentially harming the people who were waiting to receive them. Of the 7,000 packages suspected, 48 were formally seized as counterfeit or tainted products. This resulted in the suspension of 90 websites that were selling drugs over the Internet. The full story can be read on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration website.

Counterfeit drugs are a huge threat to our nation’s public health and it is very important that their distribution is brought to an end. DEA Special Agents play a huge role in protecting the innocent consumers who do not realize that what is advertised as a great deal could actually kill them.  If you know of someone who has been scammed by online discount drug deals and want to help put an end to the illegal importation of pharmaceuticals, maybe you should consider becoming a DEA Special Agent.
