One of the best ways to prepare for any career is to experience firsthand the different types of situations that you might face on the job. While this is a nice idea, the types of situations that you will see in the field of criminal justice will vary greatly. One of the most difficult aspects of preparing for a career in criminal justice is learning how to handle crisis situations, which are often the most difficult to prepare for.
At schools like Kaplan University, as reported in a recent article published in the Quad-City Times, students are able to experience real life crisis situations in the safety of the classroom by working with tools such as the XVT Firearm Simulator. The XVT Firearm simulator re-enacts scenarios that have happened or could happen to law enforcement officers throughout the country. While the simulator does not teach students how to shoot guns, it does get their adrenaline pumping and forces them to make decisions such as when to shoot and when not to shoot. Because Kaplan embraces technology such as the firearm simulator, students are able to get the hands on experience that they need to be successful in the field of criminal justice, all while working towards earning their degree.
